Will David Archuleta be the next American Idol? He's made it to the American Idol Top 6.
American Idols from the past (Clay Aiken, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, etc) will be joined this season by the next American Idol. Who will it be?
Imagine a young man of 17 years old, just starting out in life, with a smile as bright, big, and honest as can be. Now add a sweet and humble personality and the voice of an angel and you get David Archuleta.
Not the youngest American Idol contestant, but certainly close (with a minimum age limit for contestants set at 16), David has something that is capturing America’s heart.
Information About David Archuleta from American Idol 2008
America doesn’t know a lot yet about David, but here are a few tidbits picked up from the American Idol website:
- David’s hometown is Murray, UT and he auditioned in San Diego, California.
- His musical Influences are Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin, and Bryan Adams.
- His proudest moment in life so far: “Making it this far and learning a ton in the competition is pretty awesome. Another thing I'll never forget was singing in a fire department in New York that lost 14 men on 9/11 on the first anniversary.”
- If he couldn't sing, the talent David Archuleta would most like is to be able to play guitar or become a better songwriter. He has taken some piano lessons and written some of his own songs.
- Who is David Archuleta’s favorite judge? He likes them all, saying: “Their personalities and opinions together is what makes it so neat.”
- David doesn’t have any 'lucky charms.' He did say that his friend gave him a rubber band to remind him that his friends have his back.
- If he doesn’t make it on American Idol, David plans to finish school and continue performing.
- His personal goals in life are to finish high school and then go on to college.
- When asked if he has any rituals before he performs, David said he does voice exercises and says a prayer.
- David began singing around seven years old, started performing in front of people at age ten, and has taken singing lessons on and off since he was 12.
Will David Archuleta Be the Next American Idol?
Certainly, if David does not go on to be the official 2008 American Idol, he will be remembered for his touching performance of John Lennon's Imagine in February 2008. The rendition brought tears to the eyes of Paula Abdul, and to many people across America.

Postscript March 24 - Archuleta Needs to Beef Up His Performances
David did a good job this week, but is starting to look inexperienced next to David Cook, who sand and amazing re-styled rendition of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" (wow) and Michael Johns, who sang Queen's "We are the Champians.' David Cook did steal the show this evening, showing fantastic range, a strong voice, and a humble spirit. It's a new game altogther now! Keep watching.
April 8 David Archuleta Sings "Angels"
Archuleta sang “Angels” by Robbie Williams. He also played piano. Of the lyrics of the song and its message, David says they mean that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Randy thought it was Archuleta’s hottest moment the whole season; Paula said it was fantastic; Simon said it was the best song choice of the night, but thought it was a bit nasal.
